Devon is a leading authority on Adaptive Fitness for those living with or recovering from a disability.
He is the Founder and Principal director of DPI Adaptive Fitness and founder of the Adaptive Fitness Legion 501 c3 non-profit With over 20 years of experience in both fitness and rehabilitation, He is the go to resource for clients, therapists, and doctors looking to maximize the benefits of adaptive exercise to improve strength, balance, function and abilities. He has worked with and helped to maximize independence and function for individuals following or in addition to traditional therapy who are recovering from Stroke, Spinal cord injury, and other neurological conditions, Amputation, Vision impaired, and Seniors. Devon regularly coaches adaptive individuals looking to lose weight, improve their body composition, increase strength and stamina for function, and improve for sport. He also regularly trains group adaptive boxing fitness classes for everyone at ANY level and is working on kickstarting an amateur adaptive boxing program for competitive adaptive athletes. He has worked as a strength and conditioning trainer for the DC Wheelchair Quad Rugby Team the Capital Punishers in their first two years as a division 1 team in 2016 when they went 6th overall and 2017 when they went 3rd overall in the nation! He has also trained Paralympic athletes from several other countries. Devon regularly presents on adaptive fitness to local area hospitals, support groups, Walk n rolls, Major Universities and expo's including: National Institute of Health Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation George Mason University-Rehab Science Northern Virginia Community College-Physical Therapist Assistant Program and more... He was a co-presenter on Adaptive Fitness at the 2022 Idea World Conference in Las Vegas (a First for Adaptive Fitness in the 40 year history of this respected professional fitness organization) He is the Author of the DisAbility Fitness Handbook (An exercise resource for those living with disabilities) and has also written guest articles for the PTDC (the largest personal trainer resource center on the net) The Stroke Comeback center, Medfit Professional Magazine, and the Myoblog He is the lead Author for the Medical Fitness Network's Adaptive Fitness Specialist Course and is currently developing continuing education on Adaptive Fitness for the Medical Fitness Network platform. Devon was recognized as 1 of 12 top trainers in the nation for 2019 with a nomination for PFP trainer of the year and was also recognized as a top medical fitness professional with a nomination for 2020 Medical Fitness Professional of the year. Devon enjoys staying fit and active, reading, learning daily, and spending time with his wife and kids. He currently leads in person adaptive boxing clinics, virtual adaptive fitness classes, FES Bike Assessments and 1:1 Adaptive Fitness sessions at DPI Adaptive Fitness and is spear heading Competitive Adaptive Boxing to be a recognized adaptive sport |
